Thiery Henry on his return to Emirates Stadium made
many Arsenal fans to shed tears when the striker came off the bench to score
for the Gunners, the only goal that saw them through to the 4th
round of the FA cup when the Emirates side faced Leeds United. This clearly
showed how Henry rekindled memories of Arsenal fans since he left them for
Barcelona.
Henry is on loan in Arsenal from MLS side New York
Red Bulls for a period of two months, the club in the US where he landed when
he left Barcelona.
The striker made his professional debut in1994
playing for AS Monaco and got his international call-up in 1998 after which he
signed for Serie A defending champions Juventus in Italy. He described his stay
in Italy to as a disappointing season because he was forced to play on the wing
where he was not familiar.
He then joined Arsenal for € 18 million in 1999.it
was at Arsenal that the striker made his name as an excellent footballer. He
emerged as arsenal’s top goal scorer for almost every season. Under long-time Mentor
and Coach Arsene Wenger, Henry became a world-class striker and arsenal’s
all-time leading scorer with 227goals in all competitions.
The French man won two premier league titles and
three FA cups with the Gunners, he was nominated FIFA world player of the year twice,
was named the PFA players’ player of the year twice and the FWA football of the
year three times. He spent his final two seasons with arsenal as club captain,
leading them to 2006 UEFA champions league final.
In June 2007, after eight years with Arsenal, he
transferred to Barcelona for a fee of €24 million. His first honours with the Catalan
club came in 2009 when he won the La Liga,Copa de Rey and champions league treble.
In 2010, he joined New York Red Bulls of the Major League Soccer (MLS) and won
the Eastern conference title with them in 2010.
He has enjoyed similar success with the French
national team, having won the 1998 FIFA world cup, UEFA Euro cup 2000 and 2003
FIFA confederations cup. In October 2007, Henry surpassed Michel Platin’s
record to become France’s top goal-scorer of a time, he retired from
international football after the 2010 FIFA world cup.
On the Arsenal-Leeds game at emirates stadium on the
night of Monday 9th of Jan 2012,Arsenal had seemed to lose hope to
go past Leeds United who had strongly attacked them and created many chances of
playing-down the gunners. Thanks to Thierry’s goal which he used his creativity
and long-time experience that saved Arsene Wenger’s side on the hands of
troubling Leeds United who always cause problems to big clubs like Manchester
United.
