FERGIE TIME UP

Regarded as the most successful coach in British football, Sir Alex Ferguson’s tenure as Manchester United Manager will be concluded at the end of 2012/13 season after being in charge for 27 years.

The Scot, 71 has guided the Red Devils to win 38 trophies since he succeeded Ron Atkinson on 6 November 1986 at the Manchester club. The titles include 13 league titles,2 Champions league crowns, Five FA cups and Four League cups.

The Master planner’s made best signings that were behind his success at Manchester who they include, Peter Schemeichel who he signed from Brondby in 1991 who is regarded as the greatest keeper in the premier league history.

The following year, Fergie signed Eric Cantona from Leeds United whose 5 year spell at Man Utd will go down in history. Roy Keane followed in 1993 coming from Nottingham Forest, the Irish midfielder served for 12 years.
Cristiano Ronaldo came in 2003 from Sporting Lisbon who scored 42 goals for the club in 2007/08 season as the Red Devils won the Champions League before his exit to Real Madrid in a world record of ₤80million fee.

Edwin Van Der Sar joined in 2005 from Fulham and the Dutch goalkeeper established himself in the posts and was in no way fading force giving a solution in a position which had been left by Schmeichel’s exit. Robin Van Persie’s arrival from rivals Arsenal inspired Man Utd to reclaim the Premier League which they lost to their neighbours Manchester City being their 20th and 13th for Ferguson.

After Fergie’s retirement announcement, Rumours were all over about his successor with Everton’s David Moyes and Real Madrid’s Jose Mourinho believed to be potential successors but two days later it was confirmed that Moyes will take over from Ferguson signing a contract of six years with the club.

Ferguson upon his retirement will take on the dual role of director and ambassador for Man United praised the Glazer family that owns the club for providing him the platform to manage United to the best of his ability.

SHOWING RACISM A RED CARD

The abuse of players, officials and fans because of their skin color, nationality, religion or ethnicity is what is termed as racism in the association of football. These individuals are usually targeted because of their relation with an opposing team.
There have been many incidents during matches when fans turn against players of their own and the opposing team and also player to player confrontations are on the rise as far as the fight against racism is on. These situations make the players, officials and other participants feeling uneasy during and after matches.
In English football, many cases have been reported to the Football Association (FA) concerning the matter and the FA has tried its best to take correct measures on the culprits caught but the persistence still remains significant in the country.
The highest profiled confrontation in the English league on the race attack include the 15th October 2011 investigation on Liverpool’s Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez where he was accused of racially abusing Manchester United’s French left-back Patrice Evra. Liverpool had to give support to their attacker even after the FA declared that they intended to charge Suarez. The FA disciplinary panel on their 7-days hearing found Suarez guilty of abusing Evra and he was fined € 40,000 and banned him from playing eight matches.
You may think that English players in the premier league, England’s and the world’s most adored football league are excluded from punishments of those shameful acts. Since the league was established, many have been accused.
Recently, the former England captain who is also Chelsea’s captain, John Terry was caught on tape racially abusing Queens Park Rangers’ Anton Ferdinand at Loftus Road in a match between the Rangers and Chelsea.
After the tape was presented to the FA disciplinary committee, they reacted by striping Terry the  England captaincy a decision that led to the then England manager, Fabio Capello quit the managerial role in protest to the FA for not consulting him on their verdict  on his captain.
An investigation was started and on 13th July 2012, the 31-year old was tried at Westminster Magistrates court where he was found not guilty and he was cleared off the charges of racism. The chief Magistrate Howard Riddle said that he had enough evidence showing the innocence of the Chelsea veteran. This did not prevent the FA who were conducting their own investigation on Terry and in a four-day hearing they found him guilty of using abusive language and was fined €220,000 and four match ban guarantying him an appeal within 14 days which he didn’t appeal but decided to end his international career stating that the FA made his position in the national team untenable.

Fans have been also caught on the wrong side with their racism chants and recently during the Euro 2012, Croatian football federation was fined 80,000 Euros after their national team supporters racially abused Italy’s striker Mario Balotelli.
A report submitted to British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) by the House of Commons, states that racism still remains a significant problem in English football and the whole world despite improvements in recent years have been made.
In a panel by the culture, media and sports committee in England, a joint statement from the  FA,the premier league and the football league said that substantial progress had been made to curb the problem but admitted that challenges were still there and remarked that they will consider the committee’s recommendations which include; extra training for stewards, state clearly how to report incidents of abusive, use of social media to speak out against incidents of abuse and discrimination and also ensuring prosecutions take place at grassroots level.
The color of the skin of a person should not matter because it is disgusting when disgracing a human being. Racism in football is not dead but a weed that finds its growing roots after being uprooted and football’s top governing bodies, the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) and The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) should take stronger leadership on tackling the dilemma.

THE PRIDE OF LONDON-CHELSEA’S CHAMPIONS’ LEAGUE VICTORY.

Doubters and haters criticized us from the beginning of the 2011/2012 champions' league that the blues will not advance even at group stages when we were drawn against Bayer Leverkusen and Valencia because we had finished 3rd in the premier league behind the Manchester clubs.
Once they saw them through the group stages, they never believed that we could move any step further.we advanced to knock out stages where we were drawn against Napoli that people said our defence could not get hold of Napoli striker the likes of Ezequiel Lavezi, this could have been through as we lost 3-1 away to Napoli thanks to return matches.
After being upset at Napoli, the blues manager, Andre Villas Boas (AVB) was axed for his poor results leaving his assistant Roberto Di Matteo (RDM) taking as interim coach. The Italian tried to build unity among the players which was being divided by AVB.RDM restored Chelsea's winning morale by beating Napoli 4-1 on the return match at Stamford Bridge advancing them to quarter finals against Benfica.
Everybody including fans and the squad itself didn't belief their advancement in the Champions league and critics were all over that Chelsea will fall against Benfica because at that time, the blues were not at their best form.
The Blues went past Benfica, registering a 1-0 away win at Benfica and playing a 2-1 home win in the return match at the Bridge. Also this didn't signal anything to doubters that Chelsea had rediscovered their winning form under the interim Coach, RDM.
Chelsea was through Quarter finals, each one waited anxiously for the semi-finals draw and the were unlucky to be drawn together with Barcelona,a team every coach was praying not to be drawn with even Real Madrid.
Every type of betting was put on Chelsea-Barcelona game where others said that Chelsea were to be thrashed like 5 goals and what was amazing is that when all this was being thought of, the blues were preparing for a sweet revenge against the Catalans following their controversial win in 2009 when an injury goal by Andres Iniesta saw the blues out in semifinals.
The revenge worked well as the Stamford side won 1-0 against Barcelona in first leg and still nobody believed them. This was indeed their road to Munich finals but this was to be decided on the return match.
On the return match at Noucamp, Barcelona seemed to overturn their 1-0 loss at the Bridge when they grabbed their first half goal through Andres Iniesta but Brazillian Ramires restored the blues hopes to reach the finals by his added time goal. Lionel Messi’s missed penalty proved dear for holders Barcelona as ten-man Chelsea, with John Terry sent off, produced another stunning rear guard defensive display to draw 2-2 and make it to the final of the Champions League.
The Blues earned their Munich final after their great display against the Catalans to face FC Bayern Munich at Allianz Arena, Bayern’s home ground and everybody said that Chelsea will never win at Germany but faith and belief was in the squad and RDM was optimistic that the blues were capable of bringing the cup back London.
The Stamford side had difficulties at the preparation to the finals day as their key players including their skipper Johny Terry who was sent off in the Barcelona game and others like Ramires, Meireles and Branslav Ivanovic who were suspended but RDM had solution to this.
The 19th May of 2012 was not only the final day for the Champions’ league but a great and history day for the blues as they beat Bayern on penalties (4-3) after they played the 1-1 normal time and even the extra time.
Blues fireman Didier Drogba was excellent to gether with Petr Cech in the goal and also David Luiz and Gary Cahill were sold at the defense denying Bayern.Cech saved three penalties including extra time’s Arjen Robben and everybody was happy about him not forgetting that Didier’s 88thequalizer saw Chelsea have hopes of winning the European cup.
Chelsea is the first London club to win the Champions’ league and everybody is proud of the success though the season never seemed to end high like this. WELL DONE THE BLUES!

Champions League glory was Chelsea's 'revolt' against all the doubters and haters

We proved you all wrong

Cech says glory was revolt against critics

Petr Cech
THAT'S FOR KEEPS ... Chelsea's hero stopper Cech with the Champions League trophy
Published: 20th May 2012

"Champions League glory was Chelsea's 'revolt' against all the doubters and haters"-chelsea's Petr Cech.

The Blues keeper defied an Arjen Robben extra-time penalty and two shoot-out spot-kicks to stun favourites Bayern Munich in their own Allianz Arena on Saturday night of 19th May 2012.
And Cech - celebrating a "dream" early 30th birthday present - believes Chelsea's 4-3 triumph on penalties after a 1-1 draw proved everyone wrong.

He said: "It was a kind of revolt against everybody - because everything was going against us and we didn't have results.
"Andre Villas-Boas had to leave.
"He was sacked and everybody was saying, 'You have no chance against Napoli, second leg'.
"Everybody wrote us off against Barcelona, everybody said that Bayern is playing at home, that we have missing players, and we have no chance.
"So, we kept proving everybody wrong."

Like Drogba - who followed up his 88th minute equaliser with the decisive shoot-out strike - Cech insisted Chelsea's triumph was their destiny.

The Czech international, who has been at Stamford Bridge since 2004, added: "It must have been because all those years we've been really doing well in the league and were so unlucky in the Champions League.

"This year, everything was going wrong in the league. We finished in sixth place, where we had never finished since I joined the club, and it was the moment where we won the Champions League.
"So many times this season, people wrote us off, and we said, 'Okay, everybody keeps writing us off, but we will do it'. Finally! It's been eight years.

"The chance came and in a moment when nobody expected it. We grabbed the chance.
"I said prior to the game that if we win the cup, I don't want a cake, and this is the best present I can get.
It's a dream come true."

Cech said of his penalty saves: "It was fantastic and when I saved the first one, in extra-time, obviously it gave me confidence for the penalty shootout."

Blues' skipper John Terry - banned last night - missed a spot-kick in Russia that would have meant shoot-out joy, rather than defeat, in the 2008 final against Manchester United.
Cech added: "I saw Didier step up for the fifth one and thought, 'This was the moment that should have happened in Moscow'.
"When he scored, for the first time in my life I didn't know what to do. I heard him crying. I was crying, shouting. It was unbelievable."

GUUS HIDDINK MAY MAKE A COMEBACK AT STAMFORD BRIDGE.

The Dutch managed the Blues in 2009, has to decide before May 30 if he will sign a new one-year deal or walk away from Anzhi Makhachkala.

Guus, 65, took Dagestan-based Anzhi into the Europa League and this earned him a bonus of £1million from the club’s billionaire owner Suleyman Kerimov. But he has remained close to Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich and this can result to his return at Chelsea.
I know everybody wants the Chelsea care taker Roberto Di Matteo to be given a permanent job at the Bridge following his success since the Italian took the managing role from Andre Villas Boas who was sacked at the beginning of this year.
